At Pasture’s Delights, we know the importance of trust. Our herdshare owners trust us to protect the health and safety of themselves and their families, and we take that responsibility very seriously.
Our milk is NOT homogenized
Homogenization destroys the natural butter fat cells found in raw natural milk. This process uses extreme pressure to break apart the soft buoyant fat cells, which causes the remaining small fat pieces to blend into milk and no longer float to the top making the cream line. Some European countries have studies that show that this process is dangerous and may strongly contribute to heart disease and arterial plaguing. The FDA disputes these findings. Homogenization is not a required step, but rather a step of convenience that denies the consumer the ability to see how much cream is actually in the milk they buy.Our milk is NOT pasteurized
Pasteurization decreases the risk of food-borne illness by sterilizing the milk with heat. However, this process also destroys the milk’s beneficial bacteria and enzymes. During the high temperature heating process, cell bodies of these bacteria are ruptured and their contents are spilled, releasing intracellular proteins. This causes many milk drinkers to suffer histamine or allergic reactions. Almost all of these same consumers can drink raw milk and not have allergies. The high levels of bacteria permitted in milk intended for pasteurization are still found in pasteurized milk; they are just dead, not removed by the process. Our milk safety practices
Raw milk is unprocessed milk, meaning it is milk that has neither been pasteurized nor homogenized. To ensure the safety of our raw milk, we use hygiene and testing methods that include:- Thorough sanitization of each cow and milking equipment prior to milking.
- Visual inspection of each cow’s milk for anomalies.
- Monthly lab testing and daily sample collection.
